- french school of technique, emphasis on proper hand position & meticulous finger/thumb/wrist exercises. knuckles curved, fingers lifted, thumb under (for scales & 1-hand arpeggio), bouncy wrist (for loudness), alternating fingers (for trills), alternating wrist (for tremolo), yawing wrist (for rolled chords), rolling wrist (for 2-hand arpeggio), drop·roll wrist (for articulation), legato fingers, falling fingers (for repeated notes), various types of staccati (finger, wrist, forearm), etc… for advanced students, voicing (loud fingers vs soft fingers @ same hand), articulation (legato fingers vs staccato fingers @ same hand). you set aside practice time every day, and pay careful attention to detail. you practice with metronome, working backwards from end to beginning. if you encounter problem spots, you drill (from 1 measure before to 1 measure after). besides performance, also emphasis music theory, scales & arpeggi, sightreading, transposition, aural awareness, etc…
