Mother daughter duet: another way to enjoy playing piano

Mother daughter duet: another way to enjoy playing piano

A Chamber Music Initiative!

Coming up this Thursday is a very unique program led by one of our members, Renée Robbins with Sara and Ian Cumming on cello and violin.  It is entitled “Your students have trio partners: now what will they play?”. Not only will you hear specific trios targeted to students with just a few years of piano or string training but you will also have the opportunity to ask questions on how to establish chamber music groups in your studios. As far as I can recall, this is the first program of its kind and will help us to further discussions this month on how to set up future chamber music programs in our student community. In that spirit, this presentation will be followed by a concert and a lecture on March 18 and 19 by a wonderful husband and wife piano duo who have a lot of experience in the teaching of a wide range of students and in various kinds of ensemble formations. Finally we have saved Sunday May 3rd at KCH to present ensemble music prepared by our students this year.

Chamber music has always been encouraged among our members and the Guild Performance group often includes piano duets, sonatas and trios in their creative programming. Our next step is to decide how we want to expand what we have already started in the next couple years. After the very successful Monster Concert organized a few years ago, why not imagine another kind of event or a series of events on a smaller more manageable scale?
