How to Join
The Ann Arbor Area Piano Teachers Guild is a local chapter of the Michigan Music Teachers Association, our state’s affiliate for the Music Teachers National Association.
Full Membership into the Guild is open to all piano teachers in the Ann Arbor area. Many of our student events are now back in-person. Our teacher meetings have continued to be online, but have occasionally been in-person.
You must either be or become a member of MTNA and MMTA to join AAAPTG.
To join, interested teachers are asked to complete two steps
1
Payment of annual dues to MTNA, MMTA, and AAAPTG.
Annual Dues for 2023-24:
- Ann Arbor Area Piano Teachers Guild (AAAPTG)$45/year ($30/year for 65+)
- Michigan Music Teachers Association (MMTA) $46/year
- Music Teachers National Association (MTNA) $97/year
Six-Month/Trial Membership is available only to individuals meeting active membership criteria who have never been an MTNA member. The six-month/trial membership is effective January 1–June 30. The national dues are discounted by 50% during this time with many states and locals also offering a discount. When joining online during the trial period, the dues rates shown will reflect the discounted dues amount. This membership expires June 30 and will require that full membership dues be paid at that time.
Payment to the National, State and Ann Arbor organizations should be made via MTNA’s website (you must pay for all three at the same time).
2
Submission of the AAAPTG Member Information Form.
This form confirms your contact information and will be the information printed in our Guild’s directory. You may also choose to provide further information such as education and piano teaching interests.
For any questions about joining the Guild, please contact Renee Robbins at reneerobbins60@gmail.com.
What members are saying
I’ve been a member of the Ann Arbor Piano Teachers Guild for many years. I get continuing education, both at our Thursday morning meetings and directly from my colleagues. I get support for the work that I do in my own studio; I share supplies and ideas.
“The teacher finder, student recitals and formal programs are the most valuable benefits of local membership for me, along with getting to know other teachers and learning about their interests, students and special projects.”
As a new piano teacher, AAAPTG is a wonderful organization that provides enrichment and development opportunities. To know and learn from fellow teachers’ experience is also valuable. I would recommend everyone who is new to teaching to join!
