DESCRIPTION:GEORGE GERSHWIN \nNew Arrangements for Two Pianos by Logan Skelton \nThe University of Michigan was recently chosen by the Gershwin estate to make new critical editions of George Gershwin’s complete works. It is a mammoth endeavor that will extend for several decades. This lecture-recital includes a discussion and performance of new two piano arrangements by Logan Skelton of Gershwin’s An American in Paris as well as five of Gershwin’s songs. DESCRIPTION:Joel Schoenhals \nSandpaintings: The Piano Works of Navajo Composer Connor Chee \nThis lecture-recital will give an overview of Connor Chee’s complete piano music including “Sandpaintings” as well as develop an understanding of the Navajo life and culture from which these works arose. Chee is known for combining his classical piano training with his Native American heritage. This presentation aims to change the landscape of classical piano literature by introducing the piano works of Navajo pianist and composer Connor Chee. \nJoel Schoenhals is professor of piano at Eastern Michigan University and guest professor of piano at Nanchang University\, Jiangxi Province\, People’s Republic of China. An active performer and recording artist\, Schoenhals has received praise for his recordings Bartók’s For Children\, Lieder of Schubert Transcribed for Piano by Franz Liszt\, and Musical Moments of Schubert and Rachmaninoff on Fleur de Son Classics.

Would you like to see sustainable\, lasting change in your studio? How do you distinguish misbehavior from a fear-based response? How can you regulate the brain\, and empower you and your students? Come and discover practical strategies trauma-informed pedagogy has to offer. \nDr. Gloria Tham-Haines\, DMA (NCTM)\, has taught privately for 20 years and loves working with students of all ages and abilities. She is an alumna of Southwestern College\, KS; Wichita State University\, and the University of Alabama. She is a Trust-Based Relational Intervention® Practitioner and has presented at MTNA and NCKP on trauma-informed strategies for the piano studio. She is also a part of the ergonomically-sized smaller piano keyboard international initiative and owns a DS 5.5 keyboard. She was selected as a Teacher of Distinction 2019\, by the Royal Conservatory of Music.

Participants highly encouraged to bring their own copy of the French Suites for this presentation. \nEdward Parmentier is internationally renowned for his brilliant performances of early keyboard music. A specialist in the harpsichord music of J. S. Bach\, the English virginalists\, and the French clavecinistes\, has performed widely throughout the USA\, Russia\, Western Europe\, Japan\, and Korea.
